Who’s ready for Tech Talkin’ Tuesday?
As we move away from good ‘ol fashioned printed newsletters (btw I still send these out) into the digital world, I want to remind (no pun intended) teachers to check out and sign up for Remind.com.
This is a FREE Resource for teachers to use to engage Parents and Students (if you teach older grades). Another way to create a partnership between parent and teacher and keep the lines of communication open.
The basic premise of Remind is that it is a way to communicate via cell phone (think text messages) without using your own phone number. It takes teachers seconds to set up a class account to get started. Check out the 3 steps to get started here.
I normally have parents sign up at the beginning of the year at Back to School Night. Parents sign up, download the app. and Voila-we are connected! I use it to send reminders for field trips, homework, projects, class parties, etc. The possibilities are endless!
My FAVORITE way to use this service is to send a photo of something we did in class at the end of the day. I ask parents to ask their child, “What did you do in Science, Math, ELA, etc.”. It’s a great way to invite parents to engage their children in conversation about school.
One additional feature I would like to mention is the “Chat” feature. I am able to “chat” directly with a single parent or specific group of parents in my class. The chat feature is great for sending feedback about a student’s day or to message a group of parents who might be helping out for a class party or field trip.
Engage your families. Check it out!
